Hella Help (HH) is dedicated to supporting the Oakland community by addressing its multifaceted societal challenges, such as poverty, crime, inequalities, and limited access to education and job opportunities. Our tailored programs and services focus on providing intensive case management for young African-American women ages 18-39 in Oakland. By working closely with our clients, we identify barriers and develop effective solutions to empower them towards positive outcomes. HH secures funding from various sources, including seed grants from local organizations. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dan-iel Drakes
Dan-iel Drakes, the Founder and Executive Director of Hella Help, brings a wealth of skills and experience to her role. With a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from California State University, East Bay, Dan-iel has honed her expertise in community service. She has developed critical skills in HIPAA, crisis intervention, and de-escalation as a behavioral technician, drawing from a diverse range of positions. Her professional journey includes roles such as Assistant Manager at Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco, Respite Care Provider at Manos Home Care, Family Advocate at Brighter Beginnings, and Behavioral Technician at Behavioral & Educational Strategies & Training (B.E.S.T.) and the Alameda County Social Services Agency.

Growing up in the same community she serves, Dan-iel understands firsthand the social and economic challenges faced by Oakland residents. Her personal experiences with foster care, family drug addiction, and homelessness have cultivated a deep sense of empathy and insight into the needs of individuals grappling with similar hardships. These experiences have fueled her passion to provide much-needed support services to her community through Hella Help, bridging personal empathy with professional expertise.

On January 2, 2025, Dan-iel became a gun violence survivor, deepening her commitment to community safety and violence prevention. Leveraging this experience and her professional background, she is launching a series of workshops in 2026 called Un-Triggered. This initiative will focus on mental health, self care, and trauma recovery, culminating in a gun buyback event to offer a comprehensive solution for healing and reducing violence in her community.
